CHINO HAS LANDED!!

One of the highlights of my year is a visit to the National cake exhibition in Birmingham which takes place once a year.  Last years exhibition in November was no exception.  I could hardly wait to get there.  On the train I met so many like minded enthusiasts all going for the same purpose of checking out the latest cake equipment, gain ideas and watch demonstrations by specialists in the cake industry.

I was not disappointed!  There was soooo much to see, sooo much to learn and so many ideas to take home. This moon cake is from one of the newly released books by Patchwork cutters. It caught my eye and I could not wait to try it out.  The opportunity came when Chino's mum told me that he needed a cake for his birthday party in December. I told her that I have got the cake for him and he will be the first one I would have baked it for.  She agreed and here it is.  I'm told that he loved it and so did all his friends.
This cake will suite any young boy and will be the talk of the party.

Memories of a warm autumn afternoon

My sister and I took a leisurely stroll around Regents park on a late autumn afternoon making the most of the warm weather before the cold arrives. Even though I had visited London Zoo in Regents park many times, I had never been to that part of the park.  It was a pleasant surprise to see this park right in the middle of the hustle bursle of London and to enjoy the calm and peaceful flow of the lake. There were lots of families enjoying a lazy afternoon on the pedal boats and some just having a picnic or reading a book.  There is also a smaller lake with smaller boats for children.

Across the bridge is an open air theatre where you can sit and watch whatever performance is on at the time. Next to the theatre is a small ice-cream kiosk that sells mouth watering ice cream.  The only problem is deciding on which flavour to buy. After making our choice we sat down on a bench and savoured every mouthful of it.

The park is so peaceful with beautiful flower beds dotted around.  It is a park worth visiting with the family when the weather gets a bit warmer.  We left the park after some rest on the grass with such a warm feeling of an afternoon well spent.

Anniversary Glamour

We took it back to the old school here at Cakes by Candy for a wonderful couple celebrating their wedding anniversary.

This cake is full of the glamour of the silver screen and fit their celebration perfectly.

The style is slightly remeniscent of Jack Vettriano a wonderful painter from the 30s. We hope you like it's vintage style as much as we do.

Nathan is King of the Jungle

I had great fun making this jungle cake for my cheeky little nephew. The cake went down a treat with all his little friends and their parents as well.
Nathan's auntie then painted their faces as jungle animals. The children were delighted but not their parents who had to wash if off later!
