The Satchel is back!!

I used to love satchels as a child many years ago and now they are back not for school but as a fashion item.  They are an everyday bag blogged about by both male and female. I have even seen people blog about what is in their satchel.  You can now get them in different colours and even in prints.
I could not resist making a Satchel cake.  Hope you like it.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend!!!

Well these are not quite diamonds but most girls would love a box full of jewellery to select from for that special night out.  This jewellery box cake was made for a friend's niece to celebrate her 21st birthday.  I wonder which one she chose to wear for the day or it all got eaten before she could make up her mind!!!

My Twinkle Toe cake

I walked into my local shoe shop Brantano  and saw some beautiful childrens shoes.  I was so fascinated by the Twinkle toes collection and how bright and sparkly they looked and I thought about a cake.  This would be nice for a girls birthday.   Here is my attempt to make a Twinkle toe cake.

Well, they looked more beautiful than this but it had to be big enough for everyone at the party to have a big slice!  Yummy!!!!

CHINO HAS LANDED!!

One of the highlights of my year is a visit to the National cake exhibition in Birmingham which takes place once a year.  Last years exhibition in November was no exception.  I could hardly wait to get there.  On the train I met so many like minded enthusiasts all going for the same purpose of checking out the latest cake equipment, gain ideas and watch demonstrations by specialists in the cake industry.

I was not disappointed!  There was soooo much to see, sooo much to learn and so many ideas to take home. This moon cake is from one of the newly released books by Patchwork cutters. It caught my eye and I could not wait to try it out.  The opportunity came when Chino's mum told me that he needed a cake for his birthday party in December. I told her that I have got the cake for him and he will be the first one I would have baked it for.  She agreed and here it is.  I'm told that he loved it and so did all his friends.
This cake will suite any young boy and will be the talk of the party.

Memories of a warm autumn afternoon

My sister and I took a leisurely stroll around Regents park on a late autumn afternoon making the most of the warm weather before the cold arrives. Even though I had visited London Zoo in Regents park many times, I had never been to that part of the park.  It was a pleasant surprise to see this park right in the middle of the hustle bursle of London and to enjoy the calm and peaceful flow of the lake. There were lots of families enjoying a lazy afternoon on the pedal boats and some just having a picnic or reading a book.  There is also a smaller lake with smaller boats for children.

Across the bridge is an open air theatre where you can sit and watch whatever performance is on at the time. Next to the theatre is a small ice-cream kiosk that sells mouth watering ice cream.  The only problem is deciding on which flavour to buy. After making our choice we sat down on a bench and savoured every mouthful of it.

The park is so peaceful with beautiful flower beds dotted around.  It is a park worth visiting with the family when the weather gets a bit warmer.  We left the park after some rest on the grass with such a warm feeling of an afternoon well spent.

Anniversary Glamour

We took it back to the old school here at Cakes by Candy for a wonderful couple celebrating their wedding anniversary.

This cake is full of the glamour of the silver screen and fit their celebration perfectly.

The style is slightly remeniscent of Jack Vettriano a wonderful painter from the 30s. We hope you like it's vintage style as much as we do.

Nathan is King of the Jungle

I had great fun making this jungle cake for my cheeky little nephew. The cake went down a treat with all his little friends and their parents as well.
Nathan's auntie then painted their faces as jungle animals. The children were delighted but not their parents who had to wash if off later!

Lets get TopsyTurvy!

At Cakes by Candy we get some weird and wonderful requests as so many people want something that no one has had before. The most recent of these was an adventure playground cake commissioned for a fun mum who wanted a cake to match her son's 5th birthday party at Topsy Turvy World. Topsy Turvy World in Brent Cross is a fantastic indoor adventure playground which is a big hit with the young (and young at heart). We had a great time researching and creating the cake and are real happy with the results. The birthday boy and his friends loved it too.

Check out our other cakes. Bespoke cakes start at £120.

Youth Against Crime Anti Gun Crime Event

On the 16th May 2009, some truly passionate young people hosted an event against youth crime. Cakes by Candy was chosen to provide a unique cake for this unique event. It was attended by the young people of Newham, the Metropolitan Police and various other partners including Newceys and Aston-Mansfield (link) who also sponsored the event.
There were great debates and it was truly inspiring to see intelligent and thoughtful young people come together to take contsructive action about youth crime. Keep up the good work, YAC - you're future lawyers and judges in the making!
